With today’s news entry we would like to inform you about a new Lakewood Baritone guitar. After successful launch of the J-32 Baritone two years ago we introduced a mahogany model on this year’s Frankfurt Music Show – the Lakewood J-14 Baritone. This guitar is available in stores now.
A baritone guitar is always somewhat exotic. You rarely see one, because most musicians only use it for recordings and CD productions in order to produce a different sound or to add a further dimension to an existing guitar arrangement. But every now and then you are lucky enough to see a musician performing live with one of these guitars. In such cases most people are amazed about the variety that the guitar is able to create and how “normal” you can actually use it in action. Meanwhile you can find many guitarists on YouTube that demonstrate in an impressing way what those guitars are capable of. All of a sudden many musician find the idea of having one of those not so unrealistic anymore. Sure, it takes some “getting-used-to-it” in the first steps, because a guitar like that is definitely a little different; and it lies kind of new in your hands with its slightly wider neck and the longer scale. The strings are special, too – meaning thicker. But string manufacturers have recognized the trend towards the baritone guitar and developed special string gauges for those guitars years ago already. The tuning is normally a forth lower than the “normal” guitar tuning, thus it starts from B. the string intervals are the same as on a steel string guitar. There’s many musicians that are also using different tunings starting from C or A, though. Open tunings are also very interesting.
For our feeling the Lakewood J-32 Baritone has evinced that there’s many guitarists who regard this instrument as a welcome extension – in terms of raised sophistication towards playing skills as well as musical variety and in the challenge of musical thinking. Being inspired by an instrument of a different kind is rewarded by new facets. It finally takes guitarists and musician on an advanced level.
The Lakewood J-14 Baritone now offers the possibility to dive into the world of low frequencies for less money. Mahogany body and spruce top in a Jumbo shape promise a soft and warm, but still good defined sound. The scale length is 680mm (26.77”). Further information about detailed specs can be found on the model details page. The recommended retail price is € 1.895,- incl. VAT.
